Introduction to Manual Handling

Every year people are injured in the Workplace because of poor handling techniques and a lot of these injuries are avoidable

Learning outcomes:


  • Define the Legal term ‘Manual Handling’
  • Define the Injuries most caused by Manual Handling accidents and the annual cost to the UK economy
  • Define the Employer’s Legal Responsibilities
  • Define the Employee’s Responsibilities
  • Understand the legislation, Health & Safety at Work Act 1974, The Manual Handling Operations Regulations 1992 and The Management of Health & Safety at Work Regulations 1999
  • Understand the ‘Risk Assessment’ process
  • Understand who are the ‘Enforcing Organisations’ and there Legal powers
  • Understand how to move objects and people safely


Course outcome: Certificate in Manual Handling level 2 (valid for 2 years)

The course is dedicated to teachers, teaching assistants, childminders, managers and staff in nurseries and everyone whose work is related to children between 0 and 5 years old


Methods used during the training: presentation, short lectures, group discussion.

Trainer: John Anderson is the principle trainer in the company with over 26 years training experience and started in Food Hygiene and Safety in 1982 whilst living in Belgium. He delivers and develops various courses in Childcare, Healthcare and Dentistry.
